During class time, they continually observe their students, providing them with feedback relevant in the moment, and assessing their work. Professional Educators are reflective in their practice, connect with each other to improve their instruction, accept constructive criticism, and tolerate controlled chaos in their classrooms. While Professional Educators take on less visibly prominent roles in a flipped classroom, they remain the essential ingredient that enables Flipped Learning to occur.

What to Reflect On

Now please consider your current status on thoughts on the following three statements:

I make myself available to all students for individual, small group, and class feedback in real time as needed.

I conduct ongoing formative assessments during class time through observation and by recording data to inform future instruction.

I collaborate and reflect with other educators and take responsibility for transforming my practice.

Recommend Resources

Some recommend reading/viewing (you should go beyond this or choose something different if you like):

“A Hippocratic Oath for Ed-Tech” by Audrey Watters

“The Solemn Duty of Educating” by Brian Bennett

“Three evolving thoughts about flipped learning” by Robert Talbert

Now the actual assignment. Ustedes decidan:

Reminder of Schedule

The format/schedule of the course is as follows. Note that all times are Central México time, UTC-5, Central Daylight Time:

Every Monday (hopefully early or Sunday even), Ken and April will release the weekly page (you are reading it now) and release an introductory videos (one in Spanish, the other in English) explaining the plan for the week.

The weekly page (again, with “Unit X – Title” for each week) will include content that you should either read/view and then write a blog post about and record a video. You may not like writing or recording videos but we think doing this exercise will aid in your reflection and sharing your viewpoints with others.

Every Wednesday at noon (12:30pm this week) we will have a Google Hangout on Air (link here) with some invited guests and *hopefully* some of you joining in. See the technology page for more info on Google Hangouts and more.

Every Thursday at 8pm we will have another Google Hangout on Air (link here). Same content but hopefully different people. Again, anyone can join and we *want* others to join us.

During the week you should be recording your reflection in video (publish to YouTube recommended) as well as on your personal blog. The ideal is to publish early so others can view/read your content and give feedback. Do not expect the instructor to “grade/comment” your content. That is not the design of the course and we will in fact talk about why the instructor in general should hold back from commenting on “student” blogs.

The “deadline” for submitting each week’s work is essentially Sunday evening each week but again we would prefer people submit early so we can have connections between participants.

Cada jueves a las 8pm vamos a tener otro “Google Hangout on Air” (link here).

flickr photo by Clint Lalonde https://flickr.com/photos/clint_lalonde/27401644145 shared under a Creative Commons (BY) license

Questions/Comments

Feel free to ask questions or put comments on this blog post below or contact us directly.

Preguntas/Comentarios

Week Four – Professional Educator This week we turn to consider our role as learners to aid in the learning of our students.
