Day 5… Goodbye iWeek

--Originally published at Digital Identity

On our last day, our guest speakers were Rebecca Hogue and Helen DeWaard.
They made us think how we want to be seen on the internet, to be really careful when talking about other people on our blogs and to handle haters or bullies by not reacting, because they will understand that you don’t care and will move on. Keep monitoring your blog, so you can take care of any situation that presents to you on your blog or site.

Avoid to share private personal information to public spaces, which is different to the personal information, because when saying private personal information you are talking about your home, family, phone number, which is something dangerous if people have them.

There are 3 things that they mentioned:

  • We need to always remember the benefit other people will get when reading our blog, work to create a positive blog and to control who we are.
  • We should honor the roots of where we come from and be true to who we are.
  • Define your blog (issues you are going to talk about, might be personal, like a diary or a public one).

We should always think that what we post or do on the internet, will affect your digital identity.

Goodbye iWeek!!

This course made me realize all of the mistakes we can make on the internet (some can be pretty bad), what I need to control and how I can create a positive digital identity and presence.

My teacher Ken, is pretty awesome, it was the first time I had class with him and loved how he managed to teach us, having like a 100 students, control them and try to pay attention to all of us, must have been hard.

All of the guest speakers were nice, answered all of the questions and had important topics to talk about. So thank you all, for making my first iWeek a perfect one!

Day 4

Today we talked with Maha Bali (loved how she expressed),she talked sbout videos and blogs, and that many times after viewing a video that she had participated and didn’t like how she talked and how her writing is better than her speaking, also the risk when someone takes someone that she said without context and make it look bad.

Public and private digital presence is really important and it is not bad having them, on the public you can get to interact with people from around the world, but sometimes you need to share things with people you really care and know, because it is not possible  to have 1000 friends and really know every single person. I think that when having 2 profiles/blogs we need to be really careful what you share on each one, because when making comments people might misunderstand what you mean and can get you in trouble.

Maha mentioned how she started to interact with lots of people on the internet, like communities, she saw what they did, what they talked about and then, she knew how to make a comfortable conversarion (not a creepy or a dumb one). She recommended us to think about how we want people to see our blog and to think the structure we want it to have. Which is really useful, because sometimes we don’t think what we want to show and how to.

Is Social Media Safe? Day 3

--Originally published at Digital Identity

In my opinion, social media is never going to be safe, eventhough you have a private account, don’t accept friend requests from strangers; because there is always going to be someone who wants to hurt you or use you.. So I don’t know what social media is waiting for to really make a change, including us.. we are waiting for something bad to happen to react and change our account? our friends? change to anocher that we think is safer? So we do know all the risks that comes when making accounts, then why are we complaining… We NEED to make social media change.

Day 2

Digital Presence is what you do online and Digital Identity is literally you (or what you want to share about you), and let you have more rolls than real life.

We talked about blogging with Laura Gogia and Lee Skallerup. From Laura’s perspective, when writing, you need to put together everything you are doing, so it can make sense, connect it and it does not have to be deeply meaningful, by doing that it will turn into an important blog post. Also, she recommended us to post personal stuff when others can benefit from it.

On the other hand, Lee’s opinion was that most of what we write is dribble, and might be meaningful to you, to let it on the open to other people to see it. Now, we can make conections with others ideas, not only ours, can add gifs, videos, music. Learning is a personal thing and when blogging it has the values  of who is writing.  Besides, blogging gives you an oportunity to meet people interested on the same things as you. Lastly, explained how she has made an impact on others people lifes by blogging and expresing her opinion.

It ended by telling us, that when we  are sharing our ideas, should not let people tell us that what we post is wrong, because everyone has a different opinion.

Later, we also talked with Alan Levine and Amy Burvall. The most important thing that they mentioned is how everyone has a different way of writing, drawing, blogging, etc. And it contains their style without even signing it.

As well, Amy talked about how she encourages her students to write withouth fear if the way they are doing their blogs is correct. After, they expressed some of their struggles when people used their work and how they handled the situation. Finally, they both mentioned how important it is to practice everything that you do, that way you can improve the way you write.

With this picture, I want you to understand a little bit of my life…

  1. One of my dreams is to become a model, i am already with an agency here in Guadalajara, but I’m planning to change and to go to a professional modeling course so I can remember all the basics.
  2. I’m trying to go to the gym, be fitness, eating healthy. Why? Well, because of all the benefits we get by doing exercise.
  3. I spend my money on everything but what I really needed to buy. I’m literally a shopaholic… trying to fix that, but it is too difficult!!!!!!
  4. Family is the most important thing in the world for me!!! (including my dog, whose name is Peke), in that concept of family, includes love♥♥♥.
  5. Traveling is something i am beginning to do, i love the experience and the time you spend with friends/family, also all the memories that stays with me forever.

Day 1

--Originally published at Digital Identity

Ken, my teacher during iWeek, explained what Digital Identity is, a permanent information each one of us put in the internet. Also the digital identity we have, may not be who you really are.

We had a chance to talk with Dave Cormier, who is a educational researcher on the impact of technology on the future of education, and started explainig what he did for a living; how he started blogging; what problems he have had with his information on the internet; how everyday lots of people steal our Digital Identity and ways to reduce the risks of being hacked.

We also watched a video where you can create a new profile by using a website, that makes it pretty convincing. Big Data can be used to make predictions. Today Personal data is really important, its collected in Big Data Banks and will always be there.

Anyway, most of us think we know how to control our information on the internet, but I think we are absolutely wrong.
