Unit 3 – Intentional Content
Week Three – Intentional Content
This week we turn to consider the assignments and material we task our students with: Intentional Content. Remember that submissions can be in Spanish or English. If you have any questions or feel lost at all, please reach out to Ken early. There is a menu item/page with contact information. The format of this course may be very different to what you are accustomed to. Relax, Don’t Panic and always remember where your towel is.
Semana Tres – Contenido Dirigido

TLDR
For the “too long didn’t read” crowd you can watch the video in English or Spanish where Ken trys to explain what is contained on this page more-or-less.

Assignment/Content
And finally we arrive to the content for the weekly assignment:
You should already have your tools setup, if not you should look back at the Unit-0 assignment.
Learning Culture
You can find the document describing the 4 pillars of flipped learning on the Flipped Learning Network site. Here is the direct link to the pdf in English.
Here is the text of the third pillar:
Flipped Learning Educators continually think about how they can use the Flipped Learning model to help students develop conceptual understanding, as well as procedural fluency. They determine what they need to teach and what materials students should explore on their own. Educators use Intentional Content to maximize classroom time in order to adopt methods of student-centered, active learning strategies, depending on grade level and subject matter.
What to Reflect On
Now please consider your current status on thoughts on the following three statements:
- I prioritize concepts used in direct instruction for learners to access on their own.
- I create and/or curate relevant content (typically videos) for my students.
- I differentiate to make content accessible and relevant to all students.
Recommend Resources
Some recommend reading/viewing (you should go beyond this or choose something different if you like):

- http://georgecouros.ca/blog/archives/5611
Now the actual assignment. No requirement on length of post or video, you do what you think is right:
- Record and publish a video with your thoughts on this weeks topics.
- Write a post on your blog about the same content as the video. Having the content in both formats helps reflection and some people will want to put more effort into one over the other. That is fine. We recommend embedding the video recording inside the blog post as we do here on this (long) post.
Tarea/Contenido

Reminder of Schedule
The format/schedule of the course is as follows. Note that all times are Central México time, UTC-5, Central Daylight Time:
- Every Monday (hopefully early or Sunday even), Ken and April will release the weekly page (you are reading it now) and release an introductory videos (one in Spanish, the other in English) explaining the plan for the week.
- The weekly page (again, with “Unit X – Title” for each week) will include content that you should either read/view and then write a blog post about and record a video. You may not like writing or recording videos but we think doing this exercise will aid in your reflection and sharing your viewpoints with others.
- Every Wednesday at noon (12pm) we will have a Google Hangout on Air (link here) with some invited guests and *hopefully* some of you joining in. See the technology page for more info on Google Hangouts and more.
- Every Thursday at 8pm we will have another Google Hangout on Air (link here). Same content but hopefully different people. Again, anyone can join and we *want* others to join us.
- During the week you should be recording your reflection in video (publish to YouTube recommended) as well as on your personal blog. The ideal is to publish early so others can view/read your content and give feedback. Do not expect the instructor to “grade/comment” your content. That is not the design of the course and we will in fact talk about why the instructor in general should hold back from commenting on “student” blogs.
- The “deadline” for submitting each week’s work is essentially Sunday evening each week but again we would prefer people submit early so we can have connections between participants.
- Cada jueves a las 8pm vamos a tener otro “Google Hangout on Air” (link here).
