Creating a digital Identity

--Originally published at Digital Identity

Introduction

As I have written on the last post when we talk about digital identity has to do with the characteristics, ideas and personality we have and the perceptions the other have from us on the online world. One of the main things, or basically the main thing that generates the perception the others have from us is the content we post online or the one posted by others that has to do with us. This could be a simple post, a tweet or an uploaded photo posted by ourselves or by a friend in which you are mentioned or physically appear. Even having a public friend relation online starts building up the ideas the people have about you.

The Blog Post

An important topic of today was the blog post, blog post could be as short as a tweet or a simple photo to a complete set of pages and images.  Starting up a blog is not always an easy job, especially because it involves a lot of aspects you should consider, even the simplest detail counts, the design, the content quality, the post length, the photos used, the period of publications, the audience, the topic, the ideas are just among others.

What to write about ?

Today we had a videoconference with some experience bloggers and when asked about what they begin posting or what are the topics they begging blogging on, they always say that about anything they wanted to or needed in the case of Dr. Laura Gogia which used tweets to study its long articles and one day even started a conversation with one of the authors of his articles. Basically when writing a post, the idea as Amy Burvall say is to “write about anything”. First post may seem difficult but with the time you will get used to.

The design

One of the basic points of posting on blogs is that posts need to have a good design, creativity is your best friend, be artistic and create a design you like. The use of images, videos, gifs and multimedia is very important and makes the reading easier or if explaining a topic, a good image can make an unclear concept as clear as water.

Building up a community

The first post you create on a blog or webpage will have one or no comments, instead you are famous. Internet is also full of people that will read your post only to criticize them (this people are known as heaters) and some that doesn’t like to interact with the author. Building up a community of people that follow you for the good is important for progressing within the impact your post have. This involves knowing your audience, what the material they like to see from you, and basically feedback from them to improve your posts.

The problem of the stolen material

One of the problems around internet nowadays is the fact that it is easy to copy from others webpage or use other ideas and information as being yours. Although this is not ethically correct it happens a lot and it can’t be stopped even with all the copyright regulations that now exist, one advice is that if you have information you don’t want to risk is better to keep it out from internet until you are ready to share it.
