Looking for a programmer! There are some benefits

--Originally published at Social coding

Hello, this will be a short post but I am looking for programmers interested in working in a project. We are looking for people that can work with the Cordoba framework and also with Android developing.
We are doing an app with intention of selling it for the government. Also we are trying to get some funds so we can also pay who works with us.
But now we offer 140 hours of Social Service and access to the Tec Lean Accelerator Program, there you can learn whatever you want about business.
You can send a email to hola@pacoandfriends.com

So what did I do? What will I be doing? What have I been working in?

This time I will tell you a story and a little bit more, check out the video at the end!

I always wanted to make projects and the first one I tried in programming was a calculator for mass in the body, it also had some tips from nutritionists. But I didn’t finished, I always wanted to put it on the web but I didn’t have the time. Now I have learned that if I want to do something, there is no excuses I should just do it and then think about the sacrifices.
I have been working in the last months in an app and a web app. It was a solution for the problems of parking meter systems, we wanted to attacked one of the main problems of our country, corruption. We began at a Hackaton called “Social hacking”, it was at Tec de Monterrey. There is a good story that I can say now, that day we sold smoke.
Everyone knows the story behind Dropbox when it was showed to some group of venture investors, I had a inspiration from it. We were working hard to make the Twilio api work, and also integrating it with a database and running the web app on Ruby but it was hard for us to do it in 48 hours. Also we were very inexperienced (now maybe more less) so we were panicked. Then 15 minutes before the presentation in front of the judges, I got an idea.

We could trick them and make them believe in what we wanted to do but couldn’t make it.

So we used an app called “IFTTT” now called only “IF”, the app works with triggers on your apps or accounts, and then it does a instruction that you give it. I made this:

What?

Then in the presentation, we gave them a number (supposed to be of the app, but it was mine). And they send the text message to park their vehicle. They were amazed it worked, only one was being suspicious but it didn’t affected. We won the first place, got some Dell tablets and it was the begin of a great journey of learning and luck.

Then we began having luck because the government of Zapopan wanted the project to continue and began working with them. They come to the ITESM and asked if they can provide us help to do it. Then we joined TecLean, which is an accelerator for Startups. We began learning about management and also business.

Then the Smart Cities Hackathon arrived, it was the first international convention about Smart Cities from the IEEE members. We won there but not in a way we would like to, we won the “People’s choice award”. We got some money and showed the project to all the IEEE fellows who were there.

What?

Now, after all that. Some members lose motivation or didn’t have enough time so we decided to pause the project. But here is a video of the app and also one from the concept:

Now I need to see to the future, I will be doing with my partners a game. We don’t have something decided, but I am totally sure that it will be fun. Also I am looking forward to begin a new project, it was a great experience that I will not forget.

Why?

So why do I code? Why do I want to create things? Why did I hate my programming courses? Why am I so lazy when coding? Why is the blog name Social coding?

Why?

There is a lot of questions that I can use to introduce myself a little more, I will talk about all this things but about more general stuff there is my about me page you can check. So having cleared this, the answers are coming.

When I was a child and got my first PC, I was intrigued about how that magic machine worked. So I began reading about technology in the internet, wow! I really didn’t want to call that internet, using your phone as the modem to have 128kbs shouldn’t count as using the internet. It was such a pain loading some webpages but that didn’t defeated my curiosity. So I start developing this love that now is a hobby and a proper career.
I always want to create a game, I was one of those children that play Age of Empires more than 6 hours a day so I get inspiration of sometime doing something that will do the same to another boy.I am such a bad person… And then I met programming, it was such a horrible experience that I thought I wouldn’t do it more.
I had a class about programming with JAVA and I love it at the beginning, it was fun and I was seeing improvements. Until one day, I was at my house and began doing a mockup for a program I wanted to do. I designed everything I want about the program and the next day with all the excitement I went to see my teacher and asked him if I could do my program instead of the other homeworks and projects and he said yes, because the difficulty was higher than the normal work.
So I began coding and then I got in a point I didn’t knew what to do so I asked my teacher. He helped my 5 minutes and promised me to teach me somethings the next day. I am still waiting that day, from that day he begun always being against me. I couldn’t said a word in class and also he accused me of copying the final project from another person, he got me into trouble and when I asked him why, he said “Because you always wanted to do what you want and be different than your classmates”. I passed the class and then hated programming because I thought everyone will be like that teacher. And then I was wrong, I discovered many pages with tutorials and forums, I gave coding a second opportunity. And here I am.
Why is the blog called like this?
Because one of the things that I love the most is helping people and if I can do something to help their lives I will love it. In the last months, I have very grateful to the Tec for all the people I have met with similar ideology. I was having a bad image about entrepreneurs because Semana I (I hate you so much!) but now I see that there is a need of people who are aware of their surroundings and problems and come up with innovative solutions. I want to do that, and that is my goal for this course. Find something I can do and make it.

I will write another post called “What?” tomorrow, but until the day arrives I will show you a great video for you to have fun and learn something about how sure you should be when selling an idea.

Every time we begin something great we are always going out in excitement and I have been like this for the last days. I love this system because I can work on whatever I want. This methodology seems very interesting as a way to promote students to do projects.

I will be doing a series of post introducing myself around the topic of programming.
