A ‘Cunning’ Interview… (°0°)/

Over all a very nice interaction, I kind of like the insight that is given on the “programming of yesterday” and how many things work, and the reasons why thoes things work like that.

Its interesting how, when you think about it, the TC201 page is kind of our wiki, or that the “Crap I messed up, lets see what everyone else did” thing we do is an idea thet was presetid in this discussion as well.

The not very zippy Ward Cunningham

Today in the morning I watched the interview to Ward Cunningham in the 239 episode of Triangulation. Ward Cunningham is kind of a hero (and for ‘kind of’ I mean the one and only hero) of the web/programming community. He is the creator of the  wikis; he was one of the main developers of the Eclipse ISE, and have always been one of the leaders of web development.

The first comment that caught my attention was in minute 3:00, when Ward said “I found at the time, that engineers were awfully conservative. They didn’t wanna use things that haven’t seen or worked before.” Ward declared that this situation lead him to asked people for new ideas; he asked engineers about things that could be improved, and all of this ideas helped him to establish most of his innovative ideas he had in his career.

Later in the video, when Leo and Ward are talking about the Wikis. Leo said something very interesting about Ward’s invention. Leo exposed that Ward’s creation was so revolutionary that  it changed something that no one else had done: erase the imaginary line between the creators of the webpages and the readers, so that everybody in this world can work as a team, that for Leo, it is the most intangible value of this life.

Finally I think that the most important think for the purpose of the class is when Leo reflect about the importance of the fact that Ward had no pressure for doing tasks, he did everything because he felt like doing it; he did it for pleasure; he did it because he like to. In this semester, Ken wanted us to experience something similar to the student life of Ward. Ken’s politic of abolishing grades helped us to establish our own priorities; we centered on things we liked; we were free to do what we thought was going to be more helpful for our knowledge, and all the other things were put apart.

This guy just created one of the most important things in Internet nowadays, he is the creator of the concept of wiki, a place where everbody can share their knowledge, thanks to Ward Cunningham we have this special place call internet with important information

He also had contributed to the development of Eclipse and Relic and is part of the Smalltalk community. (hermesespinola.wordpress.com, 2016)

This was a very interesting podcast that circulates around Ward Cunningham’s creation, the Wiki, and other things like SmallTalk  and Wrd’s school days.

I think its incredible how just one man was able to create such a big and amazing tool that is now used in every area of knowledge, from general knowledge stuff to really specific and useful facts (that are sometimes weird).

I though this was going to be a boring WSQ but I actually found it very interesting.

Ward Cunningham

Mr. Ward Cunningham, th creator of the Wiki, started with a little database made of cards using Hyper Card(It combines databse capabilities with a graphical, flexible, user-modifiable interface.) because his goal was the absortion of technology amongts technologist, and he made a database out of cards that tracked how ideas moved throught his company.

I find it really impressive how can just one person think of an idea to help himself and his company and it ends up being one of the most used tools amongts students and researchers or whoever uses it to find any kind of information, like, almost all kinds of concepts and information can be found there.

At some point of the interview the guy asked what should students learn or something like that and Ward replied that we should learn what a boolean variable is, jquery and javascript. I guess I’ll be a little bit busy this summer.

I’ve watched the interview of Ward Cunningham, who developed the first wiki and contributed to the development of Eclipse.

Since I myself am a great fan of Wikis I’m really impressed by this guy. Wikis are a perfect way to supply and manage information, content is easy to edit, hyperlinks make it a fluent experience and many wiki engines are open source which makes it even more awesome.

Ward Cunningham is a real inspiration. You can really say he made the world a better place, making it possible to share knowlegde easily for everybody over the world.
